Urban Tree Offset Initiative (UTOI) is a project to promote the benefits of existing trees in urban areas. Through accurate data and a scientific approach, UTOI links tree and green zone owners with local businesses to preserve ecosystems.
Older trees more efficient in CO2 capture than young shoots
Urban Tree Offset Initiative recognizes that mature trees provide much greater benefits than newly planted trees. Public policies to plant young trees in urban areas are not enough to offset CO2 emissions. UTOI promotes the preservation of existing green spaces and encourages their maintenance. To achieve this, UTOI creates a social and environmental link between businesses and owners of green spaces. On the one hand, thanks to new technologies and accurate data, the start-up helps companies measure and localize their impact. On the other hand, it values owners of green areas and advises them to access additional funding to improve their green spaces and maintain their mature trees.
The team consists of innovation management experts, senior arboriculture consultants with over 30 years of experience. UTOI also relies on a consortium composed of an NGO and scientists from universities and the Czech Globe research center. This consortium ensures that the solutions proposed by UTOI are data-driven and based on a scientific methodology to promote sustainable and responsible urban forestry.
